(Beaver Dam) With the recent spell of snow and frigid weather, it is important to remember crucial tips to keep you and your home safe from Winter fire hazards. Beaver Dam firefighter and paramedic, Nick Smith urges homeowners to take extra precautions with space heaters this time of year.
โSome of the concerns you run into with space heaters particularly is they are not designed to be plugged into a power strip or an extension cord. Most space heaters come with a warning label on them. If you are going to use them, certainly run them directly into an outlet and when you are leaving a room just make sure you are turning them offโ Smith says.
Smith also recommended placing candles in stable holders and extinguishing them when unattended to avoid accidental fires. Additionally, cleaning the lint filter after every dryer use and having the vent pipe cleaned annually can significantly reduce the risk of a fire. These simple steps can help keep homes safe and protect families year-round. To learn more, click HERE.
