(Wisconsin) If you have debt collectors hounding you for payments, make sure those debts are real. Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin spokesperson Lisa Schiller says there are plenty of phony collection agencies out there.
“Do a little research. If there’s not information to be found on this, you know, “loan company” or law firm or government agency that’s calling you and telling you that you owe a debt that’s a huge red flag right there.”
Do not pay a debt agency unless they can provide an exact listing of the debt you owe in writing. Schiller notes that any legitimate agency will be happy to provide that information.
