(Beaver Dam) There are several upcoming opportunities for area veterans to go tour war monuments in Washington DC. The Madison-based hub of the national Honor Flight network brings veterans on a one-day trip to the nationโs capital to visit memorials dedicated to their service.
Once the flight lands, the veterans will spend the day visiting the Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the Iwo Jima, World War Two, Korean, and Vietnam monuments, as well as the Pentagon and 9/11 memorials. Organizer Jim Bublitz says their spring flight schedule is set.
โItโs April 8th, May 6th, and May 20th,โ says Bublitz. โNow theyโre all Saturdays and May is a little close togetherโฆtheyโre only two weeks apartโฆbut we need to take what we can get from the airlines. Itโs been working out real well.โ
Bublitz notes that most of the veterans going were part of two major conflicts.
โTheyโre almost all Vietnam veteransโฆwe have a few Korean veterans that are going,โ says Bublitz.
Bublitz says several Dodge County area veterans will take part in the spring flights. He adds that their April 8th tour to Washington DC will mark their four-thousandth veteran served. Organizers are hoping to have three more flights scheduled in the fall.
