Horicon Fire, Police Departments Practice Ice Rescue Scenarios

(Horicon) The Horicon Fire and Police Departments recently conducted ice rescue scenarios. Members of both agencies were out on the Rock River Monday night walking through different situations. Authorities say the ice is very thin in most areas and they recommend the public stay off.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt also recently reminded the public to use caution if going out on the ice. He says while the ice may seem sturdy in some locations, it may break easily in others. The sheriff notes that using the buddy system when going out on the ice is always a good idea as well as wearing a flotation device and taking other safety precautions.

Schmidt’s comments came as authorities found a 29-year-old Neosho man deceased in the Rubicon River, just west of Highway 67, on December 27th.
