Alliant Energy Warns Public Of Scammers Threatening To Cut-Off Power

(Beaver Dam) Alliant Energy is warning the public about a scam targeting its customers in Wisconsin and Iowa. The utility says they have received reports from customers saying that they are receiving calls from con artists claiming to be with Alliant Energy threatening to cut-off power within a few hours unless a payment is made with a prepaid credit card. Officials with the utility say they do not call customers and demand immediate payment. The scammers are spoofing an Alliant Energy phone number, which makes it appear as if the utility is making the call. They have even provided a different phone number that replicates their automated answering system. Anyone who feels they may be targeted is asked to hang up the phone and log onto the official website, alliantenergy.com or call 1-800-ALLIANT for more information.
