(Wisconsin) Area healthcare officials are asking the public to be tick aware this summer. Marshfield Clinic Research Institute Executive Director Jennifer Meece says there a number of preventative measures people can take.
โThey can use insecticides. They can pretreat their clothing or their tents or whatever with certain products. And then also doing thorough tick checks is really important to reduce their risk.โ
Meece says those who develop symptoms after finding an attached tick should seek medical attention.
โDoing thorough tick checks is really important to reduce their risk. And then if they do have a tick that was attached and they start to develop symptoms within . . days to weeks after they should seek health care.โ
Ticks are typically most active in Wisconsin from May to November. Most tickborne diseases here are spread by the black-legged tick, also known as the deer tick.
