The Beaver Dam High School football team opens up their season on Saturday as they head to DeForest to take on Janesville Parker.
“We’re really excited to be playing football and you can see it in the kids’ eyes. Attitudes have been great, and the coaching staff has been fired up.” Coach Brock Linde told DailyDodge.com. “Our commitment has been really solid, and we’re excited to get going.
The Golden Beavers have about 80 players in their high school program this year with 36 on the varsity. That group includes 10 seniors.
“We want to honor the seniors and celebrate their successes and their commitment to the program, and we want to use them to help create the leadership to help move this program forward. Obviously with only 10 seniors we are going to have a ton of opportunities to get young kids on the field, which is outstanding preparation as we get ready for the fall of 2021 season.” Linda said. “We’re not looking ahead to that fall of 2021 season by any means. We are going to compete and try to win games this year and we don’t have sacrifice anyone’s playing time for development.”
Coach Linde says that going into the game one #1, he’s learned that his team is pretty deep. He says that the goal is to two-platoon his team as best they can with different young men starting on offense and defense.
“There is so many advantages to having kids fresh throughout the game.” Linde said. “Obviously, the physical pounding of football itis important to alleviate that as much as possible., but from a mental preparation it’s huge.”
The Golden Beavers return two players who earned All-Badger North Conference recognition in 2019. Senior QB Carter Riesen and junior offensive lineman Nick Ludowese were both Honorable Mention all-league picks.
You can watch both the JV and Varsity games on the DailyDodge.com Videostream on Saturday. The JV kicks off at 3:30pm with the Varsity set for 6pm. The games are presented by Columbus Family Dental and the Beaver Dam Unified School District. It will also be broadcast on 1430 WBEV.
