(Beaver Dam) School Board President John Kraus Jr is thankful to the community for approving the referendum that led to the construction of the Beaver Dam High School Fieldhouse, an athletic facility with five full-sized basketball courts that is among the largest in the state. Kraus is a member of the school board’s Construction Committee and says the difference between what was on paper and what the public had the opportunity to see for the first-time Thursday night is amazing. Over 1300 people were on hand to watch the defending state champion Golden Beavers girls’ basketball team make the first official basket on their new home turf. And the second basket. And the third on their way to a blow-out win over Baraboo. The junior varsity team also won last night. Krause says this is just the beginning and he is looking forward to completion of the academic portions of the reconstruction project which is all slated to be ready in the fall when an official dedication is planned.
