(Madison) The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services recently announced that the fourth round of Youth Firefighter Grants is now open. The funding is distributed through the DSPS program, and it helps address recruitment concerns of Wisconsin fire departments.
It supports programs that expose middle and high school students to career and volunteer opportunities in the fire service at a time when choices are made about their future careers and endeavors.
The total amount of funding is $150,000 over the next two years, with individual applicants eligible for $25,000. The department released revised guidelines in 2024 to expand grant funding opportunities to more groups in more parts of the state.
The funding is available to all eligible fire departments, technical colleges, and/or school districts to establish or expand youth firefighter training for students. The schedule for these grants is as follows: March 2 is the application submission deadline and March 19 is the anticipated grant awards announcement.
