(Wyocena) A Wyocena man was injured in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon. Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies along with fire and EMS, responded to Countu Highway G in the Town of Wyocena around 4pm for a motorcycle crash. A witness observed the operator passing in a no passing zone and driving at an unreasonable speed east bound on County G. A short time later, the motorcycle – now driving west – lost control and crashed, striking a tree and utility pole.
The driver, 24-year-old Trever James Shafer, sustained injuries requiring medical transport by helicopter. Shafer was cited for Operating While Intoxicated, Violation of a Public Health Order, Passing in a No Passing Zone, Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed, Operating a Motorcycle Without a License, and False Display of Registration.
Assisting the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office during this incident was the Rio Fire Department, Wyocena Fire Department, Rio EMS, Divine Savior EMS, UW MedFlight and Brown’s Towing.
Sheriff Roger Brandner says both this incident, and the two-county police chase with the juvenile from Saturday, serve as a reminder that everyone should voluntarily comply with the “Safer at Home” public health order. Brandner says his office will continue to investigate and take enforcement action on blatant and defiant violations that put the greater community at risk.
