Work Moving Forward On New Watertown Fire Department Station

(Watertown) Progress continues to be made on the project to construct a new station for the Watertown Fire Department. Crews have begun installing elevator equipment, made upgrades to the training room, and put in a new stainless-steel railing for the patio.ย ย

Upcoming work includes laying the kitchen tile and putting up the flagpole, as well as HVAC system balancing. Fire Chief Tanya Reynen says the new facility will be an overall upgrade from their current one.

โ€œIn our current space we have one restroom on the main floor where we are all operatingโ€ฆso there is usually a line around 8am,โ€ says Reynen. โ€œOur new station is going to have multiple bathrooms on the main and the second floor for living quarters. Our dorm room currently is more of a shared room with dividersโ€ฆthereโ€™s not enough of themโ€ฆnow everybody will have an individual dorm room for privacy.โ€

Reynen says one of the features she is most looking forward to is the training tower.

โ€œNot only for our people to be able to train and do things right there rather than having to go a couple of blocks down the road or up to another parkโ€ฆbut to also bring the community in and have other opportunities to share the trainings what we do,โ€ says Reynen.

The new station will be located at 621 Bernard Street. The fire department is planning to host an open house on June 8th. Reynen says they will share more details about the event in the coming weeks.
