Woman Gets Probation, Animal Ban in Beaver Dam Cruelty Case

(BEAVER DAM) A young woman at the center of an animal cruelty case in Beaver Dam will avoid jail time but won’t be allowed to own animals for the next year.

Brianna Yahnke was sentenced Monday in Dodge County Court after pleading guilty to failing to provide proper shelter and sanitation for animals. A second charge of intentionally mistreating animals was dismissed but still considered by the judge during sentencing.

The judge placed Yahnke on one year of probation and ordered that she cannot own animals during that time.

The case drew attention after investigators removed dozens of animals from a home on West Mackie Street last fall. Police say the animals were living in unsafe, unsanitary conditions, with reports of feces, urine and a lack of proper care. Some animals were found alive, while others were already dead.

Yahnke’s grandmother, Glenann Yahnke, faces similar charges tied to the same investigation. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 10.
