Woman Accused Of Causing Fatal Crash to Stand Trial

(DEFOREST) A woman arrested by ICE following a crash that killed two teenagers near DeForest this summer was arraigned Tuesday. Noelia Martinez-Avila entered not guilty pleas to six felony counts including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Authorities say the 30-year-old was under the influence and driving the wrong way on Interstate 39-90 when her vehicle crashed into another vehicle on July 20th. Eighteen-year-old Hallie Helgeson died immediately. Nineteen-year-old Brady Heiling died in the hospital several days later. Both were from Minnesota.โ€ฏ

U.S. Department of Homeland Security claims Martinez-Avila is from Honduras and is in the U.S. illegally.

She was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after initially posting bail in August but was later brought back to the Dane County Jail on a $5-million bond.
