Wisconsin Unemployment Rate Ticks Down To 3.4 Percent In May

MADISON – Wisconsin’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked down to 3.4 percent in May, according to preliminary estimates released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

DWD says the state’s unemployment rate was 0.9 percentage points below the national rate of 4.3 percent.

The department says there were 3,024,100 people employed in Wisconsin in May, up 4,000 over the month and up 5,800 over the year.

Preliminary estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also showed 3,039,800 total nonfarm jobs in Wisconsin, an increase of 8,700 from April.

Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate remained unchanged at 64.4 percent. DWD says that is 2.6 percentage points above the national rate of 61.8 percent.
