(Juneau) The Wisconsin Department of Corrections has a population issue within its prison system. That is according to Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt, who says the department has 5,400 people over capacity.
“If you close Green Bay Correctional, you eliminate 749 beds,” says Schmidt. “That an additional 750. In two years, it’s projected that we are going to be 6,400 above capacity in the prison system.”
Schmidt says that if you add the projected total of 6,400 over capacity plus the additional 750 beds from Green Bay, that is a total of 7,150.
