Wisconsin Bracing For Big Winter Storm

(Wisconsin) A strong winter storm taking aim at the Midwest and Great Lakes region later this week is likely to bring holiday travel to a standstill. Much of southern and western Wisconsin have been placed under a Winter Storm Watch beginning Thursday and running through Saturday.

After some light to moderate snow expected for Wednesday, the main part of the storm moves in Thursday night through Friday, with heavy snow and possible winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour creating blizzard and whiteout conditions, and bringing dangerous wind chills–possibly near 30 below zero–running through Christmas weekend. Anywhere from six inches to more than a foot of snow could pile up across the Midwest.

The National Weather Service is already urging people to make alternate plans for travel.
