WI DOT Warns of Phishing Scam

(Wisconsin) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is warning consumers of phishing scams via text with individuals posing as department employees to get them to click on fraudulent links or reveal personal information. The most common type of warning is the final reminder of an outstanding toll. Some scams duplicate the look of an official of department content. Consumers should be on the lookout for suspicious messages including demands for money, avoid sharing personal information, do not respond to a text or email from an unknown person, and sign up for account activity alerts and renewal reminders by subscribing to eNotify. If anyone becomes a victim of a scam they should consider filing a police report, reporting internet-based crime and speaking to AARP’s Fraud Watch Hotline and find Fraud Victim Support.
