(Beaver Dam) Wayland Acadamy’s presentation of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka premieres Thursday, October 31st and runs through Sunday, November 2nd. The show’s start time is 7:30 pm in the Lindsay Auditorium.
Director Andrew Estervig emphasized the production’s inclusive spirit.
“We opened it up to anyone who is a community member of Wayland. So, we have a lot of younger kids who are either children of our faculty or who are friends who are children of our faculty. We have eight Oompa Loompas ranging from (I think) third grade up through eighth grade and they are awesome, they’re going to steal the show.”
The musical includes songs from the 1971 film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, as well as new songs written for the stage adaptation.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for non-Wayland students and senior citizens, and free for children five-years old and younger. Cash payments will be accepted at the door.
