Wayland Academy Holding Commencement Ceremony Is Saturday

(Beaver Dam) Wayland Academy is holding its commencement ceremony this weekend. The coed college preparatory school in Beaver Dam is honoring 52 students from 22 different countries.  

Head of School Jason Warnick will preside over the ceremony, with remarks from several students including Class of 2025 Valedictorians Jasleen Bhandal of Beaver Dam and Jungwoo โ€œTobyโ€ Hong of Daejeon Gwangโ€™yeogsi, Korea; Salutatorian Ssanyu Nambeguya of Kasanga, Kampala in Uganda; and Student Council President Jonah Ratajczak of Beaver Dam.  

Delivering the keynote address will be Pete T. Patterson, longtime Wayland trustee and son of the late Raymond Patterson, Jr.โ€”Wayland Class of 1940 and Head of School from 1953 to 1970. Patterson House, the current residence for Waylandโ€™s Head of School, honors the Patterson familyโ€™s legacy.  

The commencement weekend kicked off Thursday, May 22nd with Senior Chapel, a student-led celebration. The commencement ceremony is at 10am on Saturday, May 24th in Lindsay Auditorium. During the ceremony, awards will be presented for academic excellence, athletic achievement, and personal character.  

School officials say if you hear the Victory Bell ringing feel free to cheer or honk your horn to join in the celebration. 

This yearโ€™s graduating seniors come to Beaver Dam from 22 countries: Anguilla, Belgium, Bhutan, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Dominica, Georgia, Guatemala, Israel, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, Uganda, Vietnam, and the United States. 

Waylandโ€™s class of 2025 will head off to colleges and universities across the U.S. and around the world, including Arizona State University, Beloit College, Bocconi University (Italy), Boston University, University of Californiaโ€“Los Angeles, University of Californiaโ€“Irvine, Carthage College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Cincinnati, Colorado College, DePaul University, Elmhurst University, Franklin & Marshall College, George Washington University, University of Gothenburg (Sweden), Lawrence University, Universitรฉ Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Loyola University Chicago, Marian University, Menlo College, Milwaukee School of Engineering, University of Minnesota, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Ripon College, Royal Hollowayโ€“University of London (England), University of San Francisco, University of St. Thomas, The University of Tampa, Texas A&M University, and University of Wisconsinโ€“La Crosse, and University of Wisconsinโ€“Whitewater.
