Waupun Violations To Be Handled In Beaver Dam Municipal Court

(Beaver Dam) Starting this fall, municipal court matters from Waupun will be handled in Beaver Dam. The Common Council Monday night signed off on the plan, the final hurdle in the collaborative agreement. It will not cost the Beaver Dam anything and will generate $33 from each non-criminal offense from the community, like municipal ordinance and traffic violations. With roughly 1000 cases from Waupun expected, the annual revenue is projected at $33-thousand dollars. Currently, all of those infractions are handled in either Dodge or Fond du Lac County Circuit Court, at great expense. For example, Waupun currently has to pay to have an officer and a city attorney at every municipal case handled in circuit court. That would only be needed in Beaver Dam’s courtroom if the case goes to trial. Waupun writes around 1000 tickets a year, compared to 2700 on average in Beaver Dam, but Peters says the additional cases will not have a noticeable impact on workload.  The Beaver Dam Municipal Court handles currently handles cases in the city and Town of Beaver Dam along with the village of Neosho and the towns of Rubicon and Ashippun.
