Waupun to Purchase Public Safety Drone in 2026

(WAUPUN) There is a new tool to help public safety in Waupun. The city budget passed last month includes $5,500 to buy a drone in 2026. Police officers, firefighters, and emergency workers will share it. The drone should make everything from crime fighting to firefighting faster and easier.

“Locating people, tactical situations, I know Beaver Dam uses theirs on the fire side,” said Waupun Police Chief Jeremy Rasch.” Now you can take a drone that has infrared on it, and you can fly the drone around the house to make sure there are no heat signatures.”

Rasch said several city employees will be trained to fly the drones safely and legally.
