Waupun Man Sentenced To Prison For 2019 Killing Of His Grandmother

(Waupun) A Waupun man convicted of killing his grandmother was sentenced Wednesday to 13-and-a-half years in prison. In May, Gregory Spittel was found guilty by a Fond du Lac County jury of Second-Degree Reckless Homicide as well as Battery to Law Enforcement, Resisting an Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.

Carol Foreman was found in the basement of Spittel’s home with serious head injuries on August 24th of 2019. The 75-year-old died four days later. Prosecutors say the beating happened after Foreman provided information to police that caused Spittel to face drug charges and lose custody of his children.

Officers initially responded to the residence for a medical call. Spittel was reportedly drunk and screamed at them when they entered the residence. The 33-year-old then confronted and threatened the authorities.

Spittel was also placed on extended supervision for seven-and-a-half years.
