Waupun Memorial Hospital ER Nurse Receives DAISY Award Honor

WAUPUN – An emergency room nurse at SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital has been recognized with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Lauren Gallagher, RN, recently received the honor after being nominated by a patient.

According to the nomination, Gallagher helped the patient get comfortable, explained medical information in a way the patient could understand, and stayed with the patient until they felt at ease.

The patient described Gallagher as โ€œvery caring and so kindโ€ and said, โ€œIt was nice that I was not just a number.โ€

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses for extraordinary and compassionate care provided to patients and families. Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues.

Gallagher was recognized during a brief ceremony and received a certificate commending her as an โ€œExtraordinary Nurse.โ€ DAISY honorees also receive a pin and a sculpture called โ€œA Healerโ€™s Touch.โ€ The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. His family created the award to thank nurses for the care they provide to patients and families.
