(WAUPUN) A Waupun man convicted of sexually assaulting a child will spend the next five years in state prison and remain under supervision for another 15 years after that.
Alan W. Shierling Jr. was sentenced this week in Dodge County Circuit Court after being convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child. The sentence also requires him to register as a sex offender for life and bars him from having contact with the victim, the victim’s family, or anyone under 18.
The case grew out of a police investigation that began in January 2025, when Waupun police received a report of an inappropriate relationship between the 33-year-old Shierling and an underage girl from Rubicon. Investigators later learned the two had engaged in sexual contact multiple times and that Shierling had proposed marriage to the teen without parental consent, according to authorities.
Police said the investigation uncovered signs of grooming behavior, prompting additional reports from concerned community members. Investigators obtained court-approved warrants to review electronic communications connected to the case.
Shierling was arrested in February 2025 after a traffic stop in Rubicon, where deputies found the victim in the vehicle with him. Interviews conducted at the scene confirmed the sexual contact, police said, and Shierling was taken into custody and booked into the Dodge County Jail.
The Waupun Police Department credited the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the Dodge County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
