The Waupun High School girls basketball team heads to Lodi on Thursday night in a WIAA Division Three Sectional Semifinal matchup with Lake Mills.
Waupun (23-3) shared the East Central Conference title with Kettle Moraine Lutheran this season. The Warriors rolled through their Regional with a 68-21 win over East Troy and a 62-38 blowout of Lakeside Lutheran.
Waupun’s three top scorers all have committed to play NCAA Division One College Basketball. Kayl Petersen (18pts, 12 rebounds) is heading to Marquette. Lydia Aalsma (St. Thomas) is a 12.8 ppg while Qunnipiac recruit Gracie Gopalan scored 9 points per game. Waupun was ranked #2 in the final Wissports.net Division Three Coaches Poll
Lake Mills (19-7) won the Capitol North with a perfect 8-0 record. They edged Watertown Luther Prep 49-48 and held off Columbus 55-39 to win the Regional Championship.
Lake Mills also has their top three scorers in double figures including Sydney Burling (11.2), Emily Wollin (11/2) and Taylor Wollin (10.3)
These two teams met in a D3 Sectional Semifinal last season with Waupun picking up the 44-40 win. The Warriors rallied from a 25-21 halftime deficit. Kayl Petersen led all scorers with 21 points.
The winner of Thursday night’s game faces either Edgerton or Edgewood on Saturday afternoon at Evansville with a trip to state on the line.
