(Waupun) The Waupun Fire Department was among the few departments in the city that recently participated in active shooter training. The Waupun Police Department as well as EMS also participated. Fire Chief BJ DeMaa says this training gave all the departments the ability to make a set up a communication plan between them if such a situation arises.
“We had the opportunity to do a few tabletop exercises,” says DeMaa. “So you know, from there, you look to take it to that next step, and how do we get some hands on opportunities where, you know, we can work on, you know, whether it’s a what we call a rescue task force.”
The fire chief says a rescue task force is a group of members from the fire, police, and E.M.S. that go and get the victims out so they can be transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
