Waupun Fire Chief Is Stepping Down

(Waupun) Waupun’s fire chief is resigning. B.J. DeMaa, who also serves as the city’s director of emergency management, is stepping down from the dual posts. DeMaa is leaving to take up a position as the director of communications and emergency management for Fond du Lac County.

An employee for the city since 2014, Mayor Rohn Bishop commended DeMaa for his work to improve Waupun’s overall emergency response capability. Bishop says (quote) “DeMaa has moved their community forward and will be missed.” The mayor adds that they are fortunate to still have his knowledge and expertise serving the city in his new role with the county. A portion of Waupun falls under the jurisdiction of Fond du Lac County. Bishop says they wish DeMaa the best as he takes this next step in his career.

Waupun will begin the process of searching for a new fire chief and director of emergency management. No timetable was given to have those positions filled. DeMaa’s last day is October 2nd.
