(Waupun) The Waupun Common Council heard an update this week on the 2021 budget. The proposed tax levy of $3.3-million-dollars would be an increase of $108-thousand-dollars from last year, or 3.4-percent. City Administrator Kathy Schlieve says they were not able to unveil a preliminary mill rate because the state has not yet released assessed values which will be announced Friday. Last year, the mill rate for Waupun residents in Dodge County was $7.59 per thousand while across the county line in Fond du Lac the tax rate was $7.69. Finance Director Michelle Kast says the proposed budget would qualify for the Expenditure Restraint Program, which financially rewards municipalities that keep their spending in check. Several budget priorities outlined include a well-maintained infrastructure, a healthy and safe community, economic vitality and high performance government. Final budget adoption is slated for November 10th.
