Watertown Regional Earns Another ‘A’ for Patient Safety

(WATERTOWN) Families who rely on Watertown Regional Medical Center can take some added comfort this fall: the hospital has once again earned an “A” grade for patient safety, a national mark that puts it among the safest hospitals in Wisconsin.

The rating comes from The Leapfrog Group, an independent watchdog that evaluates how well hospitals prevent medical errors, infections, and other harm. Watertown Regional has now earned an A in nine of the last 12 grading periods, including the last three in a row. Only 16 hospitals statewide received the top score in Leapfrog’s fall 2025 update.

Leah Binder, Leapfrog’s president and CEO, said the repeat A shows a long-term focus on keeping patients safe.

“Consistently earning an A demonstrates a long-term, organization-wide commitment to putting patient safety first,” Binder said.

Watertown Regional CEO Richard Keddington said the recognition reflects the work of staff across the hospital.

“Every hospital strives to earn this mark, but only a fraction do,” he said. “Our success over the past decade-plus is a testament to the commitment and focus of our team.”

Leapfrog updates its grades twice a year, using more than 30 measures tied to errors, accidents, and infection prevention.
