Watertown Police Make Arrests In Connection To Armed Robbery

(Watertown) The Watertown Police Department has arrested two individuals in connection with a recent armed robbery. Around 10:40am Friday, officers responded to the BP gas station at 330 Summit Avenue and learned that a while male dressed in all back demanded money from the cash register.

The employee refused and a physical altercation ensued. The suspect ultimately went behind the counter and took multiple vape boxes. During the robbery, the suspect flashed a black handgun that was tucked in his waistband.

That same day, an individual that authorities identified as Troy Burton of Watertown came forward to law enforcement with information on the suspect. Burton reportedly told police that the same individual committed a robbery at a Speedway gas station in September.

A consented search of Burtonโ€™s vehicle uncovered a BB handgun and gloves as well as a face covering that matched the descriptions given by the employee. The suspect, allegedly identified as Austin Rupnow of Watertown, asked Burton to drive him to Watertown.

Burton reportedly said that Rupnow described the details of the robbery to him. Authorities say Rupnow declined to speak with them at the time of his arrest, but he was found to be in possession of a vape matching the ones stolen during the robbery. The investigation into this case is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact law enforcement.
