Mayville High School is hosting a historic girls volleyball event tonight and you can watch it on DailyDodge TV. The Battle of the Marsh will pit the Mayville, Horicon and Waupun girls volleyball teams against each other on an outside court on the Mayville High School football field.
In a first for Wisconsin athletics, the event will be played on a custom-built Sport Court laid over a structural base of plywood, transforming the gridiron into a one-of-a-kind volleyball arena. This marks the first known varsity volleyball match in Wisconsin to be played outdoors on such a surface, breaking new ground both literally and figuratively.
“We’ve been working on this for about 10 months,” said Alan Capps, Mayville Varsity Head Coach and event organizer. “The pure scale of this is something I had not anticipated! It would be impossible to do this without the literally hundreds of volunteers!”
The evening will feature three matchups among regional rivals:
- 5:30 PM: Waupun vs. Mayville
- 6:30 PM: Horicon vs. Waupun
- 7:45 PM (Under the Lights): Horicon vs. Mayville
The Battle of the Marsh will celebrate local history, as Mayville High School honors the very first varsity girls’ volleyball team, who paved the way back in the early 1970s. Surviving players and coaches will be recognized during a special ceremony at center court, bridging generations of athletes.
“We’re proud to honor the women who laid the foundation for what girls’ high school sports would become,” said Capps. “Bringing this full circle — from a small gym in the 1970s to an outdoor court under the lights with hundreds of fans — is something truly special.”
The Dam Sports Show on 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam and DailyDodge TV will kickoff coverage on Tuesday afternoon from 4pm to 5pm. Then at 5:15pm DailyDodge TV will broadcast all three matches. Cory Sparks, Wally Lukachinsky and Aiden Voigt will be on site to bring the coverage to you live.
The event is presented on DailyDodge TV by Empeople Credit Union along with Hometown Glas & Improvement and Columbus Family Dental.
Admission is $12 and tickets can be purchased at the door.
