Upon arrival, first responders found that a passenger had extricated himself and was able to talk with law enforcement. Immediate lifesaving efforts began on the driver who was trapped, but if was quickly determined that the 41-year-old was deceased.
The initial investigation showed that the van entered the median at highway speeds, performed an evasive right-hand turn which caused the vehicle to skid sideways across both lanes of traffic. The van then traveled through a fence and into a tree, approximately 100 feet off the paved portion of I-41.
Authorities say the name of the driver is not being released at this time.
