(Lomira) A bench warrant was issued Monday for a Chicago man charged with running from Dodge County authorities. Ellis Freeman is facing a felony count of Fleeing. He was scheduled to make his initial appearance in court Monday, but according to court records, he failed to appear.
A sheriffโs deputy received reports of a vehicle with Illinois plates crossing the centerline and frequently braking just north of Highway 49 near the town of Lomira in November. A traffic stop was conducted and when law enforcement asked for the suspectโs license and insurance, he said he did not have it with him. When the deputy returned to their squad car, the vehicle accelerated away.
The pursuit lasted nearly five miles and reached speeds of around 75-miles-per-hour before being called off. The sheriffโs office was contacted later by Fond du Lac police saying they had found the suspect vehicle and had two booking photos of the alleged suspect.
According to the complaint, the individual in the photos matched the person captured by bodycam footage from the deputy taken the night of the chase. If convicted, the 43-year-old faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison.
