(Juneau) A Traffic crash near Juneau has caused an ongoing gas leak issue. At around 230pm Wednesday, a traffic crash occurred on Hwy 26 near the Dodge County Airport outside of Juneau. The crash caused damage to an above ground natural gas pipe creating what officials have declared to be a significant natural gas leak. In response authorities have evacuated a one-mile radius around the area to ensure the safety of residents. In addition, natural gas service to the city of Juneau has since been shut down while repairs are underway. According to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, it is anticipated that the gas service for the city will remain off for an extended period, possibly even overnight. Electrical service had also been shut off but has since been restored. Authorities are stating that it is possible that further downtime of electrical service could be possible as the repair process is ongoing.
In response a warming shelter has been established at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the west side of Horicon at 950 Washington Street also known as State Hwy 33. A Unified command has been established on scene with Emergency management, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, and Juneau Fire Departments assisting. It is anticipated that there will be long term road closures in and around the Juneau while the incident is resolved.
