(UNDATED) After a winter stretch of rising unemployment, new numbers show the job market began to turn a corner in March.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development published the March report in early May, showing unemployment rates dropped from February to March across Dodge, Fond du Lac, Columbia, Jefferson, and Washington counties.
Dodge Countyโs rate fell to 3.3% in March, down from 3.7% in February. Fond du Lac County dropped to 3.4% from 3.8%.
Columbia County saw unemployment ease to 3.9%, compared to 4.1% the month before. Jefferson County declined to 3.5% from 3.9%, and Washington County dipped to 3.4% from 3.6%.
The shift marks a clear change from the start of the year, when unemployment climbed in both January and February following the holiday season slowdown.
State data shows the trend wasnโt limited to this area. Most counties across Wisconsin saw month-to-month declines in March.
