Two Men Sentenced in Fond du Lac Fentanyl Death That Claimed Woman in Recovery

(FOND DU LAC) A Fond du Lac woman who had been sober for nearly a year died after using fentanyl and cocaine she bought the same day, according to court records. Two men connected to that sale have been sentenced.

Larry L. Plummer was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision for second-degree reckless homicide in the August 14, 2023 death, the Fond du Lac County District Attorneyโ€™s Office said.

Adrian Santiago-Hernandez was sentenced to one year in prison and eight years of extended supervision for first-degree reckless homicide.

Police were called to the womanโ€™s home on East Division Street for a suspected overdose. Family members said she had left earlier that day and returned acting โ€œout of itโ€ before going to lie down. She was later found struggling to breathe and was pronounced dead that night, according to the criminal complaint. The medical examiner ruled her death was caused by toxicity from cocaine, fentanyl and other substances.

Investigators recovered messages showing she contacted Santiago-Hernandez that morning asking for โ€œhardโ€ and โ€œdown,โ€ slang for crack cocaine and heroin or fentanyl. Santiago-Hernandez told detectives they bought drugs together and that he got them from Plummer, who he said was dealing out of an apartment on Forest Avenue.

District Attorney Eric Toney said Santiago-Hernandez cooperated with investigators, which helped prosecutors charge Plummer as the source of the drugs. He said he hopes the sentences send a message and encourage people struggling with addiction to seek help.
