Texas Man Arrested Following Fatal Crash In Columbia County

(Courtland) Columbia County authorities arrested a Texas man following a fatal crash. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle crash in the intersection of Highway A and Highway G in the town of Courtland Friday involving a semi and a passenger truck.

An occupant of the truck, identified as a 21-year-old woman, was transported by MedFlight to an area hospital but later died from her injuries. A preliminary investigation showed that the semi failed to stop at a stop sign on Highway G and travelled into the path of the truck on Highway A, causing the truck to strike the semi’s trailer.

Authorities say the driver of the semi, identified as Jibreel Aguirre of Garland, Texas, was cooperative with the investigation. The 25-year-old was taken into custody and is being held at the Columbia County Jail.

He is facing felony charges of Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Sheriff’s officials say this was a preventable crash that tragically cost a young woman her life. The Wisconsin State Patrol was called to assist with the reconstruction of the crash and a commercial vehicle inspection.
