Teen Seriously Burned After Small Apartment Fire in Lomira

(LOMIRA) A 16-year-old boy was seriously burned Saturday night after a small fire in a Lomira apartment, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say it happened just before 9 p.m. in an apartment building on Park Lane. Investigators believe the teen was using a lighter to melt plastic keys on a computer keyboard when a nearby bottle of isopropyl alcohol caught fire.

The flames went out before firefighters arrived, and damage to the apartment was minimal.

The boy was flown by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized.

Officials say the fire was accidental. No one else was hurt, and no residents were displaced.

The Lomira Fire Department and First Responders, along with fire crews from Theresa and Knowles, Mayville EMS, Fond du Lac Paramedics, and Flight for Life, all responded to the call.

The teen’s school district and School Resource Officer were also notified so support can be provided through the district’s “Handle With Care” program.
