(Lodi) A 15-year-old drowned in a swimming pond at a campground in the town of Lodi Tuesday. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Smokey Hollow Campground around 5:40pm.
Authorities received reports that a child had gone under the water and did not resurface. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Dive Time was immediately requested to the scene. The teen, who is from Chicago, was located approximately 50 minutes after being last seen and was removed from the pond.
First responders began lifesaving measures before the child was transported by EMS to a local hospital but did not survive. Columbia County Sheriff’s Lieutenant David Clark thanked the first responders, citizens, and other law enforcement members for their efforts. He says their thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
