Suspect In Death Of Lake Mills Fire Captain Avoids OWI Homicide Charge

(Lake Mills) A Dodgeville man has been charged in connection with the death of a Lake Mills firefighter on the Beltline in Madison. Samuel Cremers is facing one felony count of Knowingly Operating A Vehicle on a Suspended License Causing Death. The 28-year-old avoided a drunk driving homicide charge after his blood alcohol level came back just under the state’s legal limit at point-zero-seven-nine (0.079). Lake Mills Fire Captain Chris Truman died in the snowy New Year’s Eve accident.  Truman had pulled over to the side of the Beltline to help a stranded driver. Cremers had a signature bond set at $5000 yesterday and a Dane County judge will decide later this month if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
