Strong Winds Raise Fire Danger Across Dodge County and Surrounding Areas

(DODGE COUNTY) If you’re thinking about burning brush or lighting a campfire today, officials say now is not the time.

Strong winds and low humidity are pushing fire danger higher across much of southern Wisconsin, including Dodge County. Safety officials there are urging residents to avoid any outdoor burning while conditions remain dry and breezy.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ WisBurn site, Dodge County is listed at high fire danger Wednesday. Columbia, Jefferson and Washington counties are also under high fire danger.

When the air is dry and winds pick up, fires can spread quickly and become difficult to control. Even a small spark can turn into a fast-moving grass or brush fire.

Officials are asking people to hold off on burning debris and to use extra caution with anything that could create sparks.
