(Markesan) When the state’s Joint Finance Committee met last month to discuss the release of funds from the state’s opioid settlement State Senator Joan Ballweg spoke in favor of Project Periscope.
Some of the $32 million the state’s Department of Health Services is receiving from the settlement will go toward Project Periscope which the DHS partners on with the Medical College of Wisconsin. Project Periscope helps pregnant and postpartum mothers who are trying to recover from alcohol or substance abuse issues. Senator Ballweg says it provides intense help and treatment.
The state lawmaker from Markesan points out the responsibility of caring for those babies and children of those women unfortunately is falling on their grandparents. Ballweg is a member of the state’s Joint Finance Committee.
