(Waupun) Local health care workers were recently introduced to a new tool to help them learn through a hands-on experience. SSM Health’s Waupun Memorial Hospital hosted a virtual reality training this week. The VR simulations assist with onboard training and continuous development. Simulations provide real-time, realistic exercises through a fully immersed clinical environment.
SSM Health’s Regional Manager of Clinical Education Mel Thompson highlights the benefits of utilizing virtual reality to help train.
“It’s very beneficial that they can go into the room, and they can use the equipment that they’re used to using and it gives them the opportunity to interact with the patients,” says Thompson. “Some of our scenarios have family members and other providers as well. It gives our team the opportunity to work together in those hands-on skills…they can delegate tasks to each other and work together as a team to get a good patient outcome.”
Thompson notes that SSM Health has been at the forefront to bring this technology into the clinical setting.
