Smoke, Road Closures Expected During Beaver Dam Fire Training This Weekend

(BEAVER DAM) People living near Hemlock Road in Beaver Dam may notice heavy smoke and detours this Saturday — but officials say it’s all part of a planned training to keep firefighters ready.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department will conduct live fire training March 28 at a property along Hemlock Road on the city’s east side. The exercise runs from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the most visible smoke expected in the afternoon.

Fire officials say the training is designed to give crews hands-on experience in realistic conditions, helping them stay sharp for actual emergencies.

Neighbors nearby may see smoke throughout the day, especially between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. when crews move into the final stages of the exercise.

Drivers should also plan ahead. Hemlock Road will be closed between Highway 151 and County Highway W during the training. Only local traffic will be allowed through the area.

Fire Chief Michael Wesle said the department appreciates the community’s patience while crews train.

“These exercises help ensure our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively to real-world incidents,” Wesle said in the release.

Officials are asking drivers to use alternate routes and use caution if traveling near the training site.
