Sheriff Discusses Swan Park Lights Vandalism On Community Comment

(Beaver Dam) Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt is not letting a petty vandal dampen his holiday spirits. Earlier this month, the Beaver Dam Rotary Club’s Christmas Lights Display at Swan Park sustained $3000 in damage; authorities are still looking for the suspects and a $5000 reward is being offered for information that leads to a conviction. Schmidt, who chairs the Rotary Lights Committee, says the incident was a negative that was turned into a positive. He says the community will not let a couple grinches rain on Beaver Dam’s holiday spirit. There has been an outpouring of support from the community since the vandals struck and much has been reported about the donations of time, services and money that has been received. Schmidt took a moment on WBEV’s Community Comment Wednesday to acknowledge one of the unsung heroes. He noted that the Beaver Dam manufacturing company Centro dedicated three hours of their time the morning the vandalism was discovered welding damaged displays back together. He says ultimately only two displays were lost. Donations are being accepted through the city of Beaver Dam; note that it is for the Rotary Lights.
