September Is Preparedness Month In Wisconsin

(Juneau) September is Preparedness Month in Wisconsin. Safety officials encourage everyone to take a few minutes to ensure they have the tools needed to respond to potential disasters and emergencies in their community. Dodge County Emergency Management Deputy Director Joe Meagher says staying informed is key. He says one of the best ways to get notified of severe weather or emergency situations is signing up for warnings on weather apps. People are also encouraged to get a NOAA weather radio which is an automated 24-hour network of stations that broadcast information directly from a nearby National Weather Service office. Meagher recommends creating an emergency plan and to practice that plan. Dodge County Emergency Management Director Amy Nehls says in addition to an emergency plan, citizens should prepare an emergency kit. She says remember the four P’s when putting together a kit: pills, pets, purses, and phones. More information on how to create an emergency kit and plan is at http://readywisconsin.wi.gov
