Routine Vehicle Check Results in Chase and Fatality

(Jefferson County) A high speed chase Friday after a vehicle check has resulted in a fatality in Jefferson County. According to reports, a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had stopped to check on a vehicle parked near the intersection of County Road Q and County Road B in the town of Aztalan around 9:53pm. After making contact with the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, the deputy noticed the smell of marijuana and ask the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver fled the scene, heading southbound on County Road G, where the officer temporarily lost sight of the vehicle. Upon approaching the curve on County Road G just north of State Highway 12 the officer discovered the suspect vehicle had crashed, appearing to have rolled several times. Deputies located the driver who appeared to be trapped within the vehicle and were unable to locate a pulse. Fort Atkinson Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found the male subject was deceased. The incident is under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol, with the identity of the driver being withheld pending notification of their family.
