Roundabouts Coming to Three Problematic Dodge County Intersections

(JUNEAU) Three of Dodge County’s most dangerous intersections are scheduled for safety upgrades in the next few years. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says roundabouts will be constructed at the intersection of County Highways A and W, and at County Highways G and S. Both projects are slated for 2028.

“They are definitely safer, because you don’t have the T-bone type crashes,” said Schmidt. “If you’re going to have a crash, it’s going to be more of a glancing blow on the side (of the vehicle) and at much slower speeds.”

A third roundabout is scheduled to be constructed at the intersection of Highway 33 and County TW, perhaps as early as 2029.

Crash data in Dodge County consistently shows that a significant portion of serious crashes at those intersections are caused by drivers failing to stop and stop signs or due to inattentive driving. There was a fatal crash at A and W as recently as Mar. 12.

“These upgrades are part of a strategy to modernize our transportation network while keeping safety at the forefront of what we do,” said Schmidt.

The roundabout plans come after recently-completed safety upgrades at two intersections on US 151, at County DE and County C.
