Road Construction Project In Watertown Begins

(Watertown) The first part of a three phase road construction project began Monday in Watertown. The project area includes North Fourth Street between Jones Street, north to the Rock River.

City officials say phase one work consists of removing and replacing just under one-half mile of watermain and any public lead or substandard service laterals located within the project limits. Construction will begin at the projectโ€™s north end, near the North Fourth Street bridge and progress south.

Officials say the contractor will accommodate school traffic during drop off and pickup times. They add that the scope of phase one work will most nearly disturb the northbound โ€“ east side โ€“ lane of traffic. The pavement area will also be replaced with concrete. Parking will be removed on the east side of the road for about a week once the concrete is placed. Phase one is scheduled for completion around late June.

The second and third phases will include the milling of three inches of existing pavement from curb to curb, installing a geotextile interlayer, and placing three inches of hot mix asphalt. Phase two is slated to begin after July 4th.
