Ribbon Cut On New Beaver Dam Skate Park

(Beaver Dam) The ribbon was cut Wednesday on a new skateboarding park in Beaver Dam. The slab of concrete that features a ramp, several grinding boxes, among other things, is located on a patch land off Fletcher Road between Beichl Avenue, County Road E and Highway 151. The site was dedicated to the construction of a skate park in 2013. Father Mike Erwin sat on the committee advocating for its construction. He says Leadership Beaver Dam was a driving force behind the park, along with the help of several alderman’s, skateboard enthusiasts and others who put together a coalition big enough to push the project over the edge.

Erwin says finding the right place to build the skateboarding park took several years. He says everyone wanted the park but just not in their own backyard. Erwin adds that the piece of land is a perfect place for a skate park because of the constant traffic that goes through the area.

Joann Lehman, who also sat on the committee, says the skate park is a dream come true. Lehman says one thing she has heard over her time working with multiple youth organizations is that area kids want a place to skate without getting into trouble. She adds that the park is built by the community and needs to be built on by the community.

The skateboard park, which is an official city park, was designed to accommodate future additions. People are encouraged to reach out to the skateboard and BMX Community Park Beaver Dam Facebook page if they are interested in helping add-on to the facility.
